Poet,

I don't think I can summon up energy even for that.

Straight,
Sometimes, too much of an extensive search is also a sign that we really don't want to get down to writing.

Sometimes we do so much research for an article that we forget what we set
out to look out for in the first place.

MayB,
I hope you get cracking soon.  I'm wishing the same for myself.

Eventually the deadline forces the issue. Trouble is that I am taking the same approach to the post-grad course I am doing now.

John
I should get started writing 101 Ways To Get Your Finger Out Of Your  Moony 1 & Start Writing That Best Seller.  I'd make me a mint!  Wait a minute, did I say a mint?  Scratch that. Bad idea!

word
Sounds like the title of a best selling novel, word.  Every writer would buy it, and if you gave a website address where every writer could give their own ways of avoiding writing, you could have another novel.

MW, One this is sure...
All of us have our  ways of avoiding what we're supposed to be doing. I thought I'd start last night, but still haven't got around to it. I think maybe I just haven't decided how I'll structure the article.  I suppose I'll get cracking today.

I have that problem
It's not that I don't know what I am going to write or that I don't have the info at hand.  My last column I could not seem to sit down and write.  I suspect it was the topic and my way of avoiding the emotions that would go with it.

Katray,

I think I understand exactly.  I don't do anything until I've done some research. Even when I'm buying stuff I check out my options before I commit. Keep working at it. You'll get there.

Right, Tapsel
No research, no article.  Oh Well

It's hard striking the right balance

This is the reason why I don't have my political website up and running yet - I'm so painstakingly careful and cautious in developing trustworthy sources and methods, researching all angles, there is little progress for hours upon hours of work. But there is progress; seeing it keeps me going. Hopefully the same for you Word. Write on!

It really does take a lot of time to do it right, word.smith.  But, if one doesn't do the research..........
