emotional cheating?

Why shouldn't you develop relationships with other people if you're involved with someone? One of the main reasons marriages don't work out is people try to devote every fiber of their being to one person, so they can merge together and become "one." I can understand intimacy, loyalty, and even faithfulness but desperately seeking to merge with someone in an effort to avoid the inevitable feeling of being alone in the world is ridiculous. And creepy.

Talk to only me, connect with only me, touch only me, look at only me, ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!! We must be ONEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

Both are very good points..............when you think about it we can all look to ourselves and admit yes, we all have cheated emotionally.

Gracefulwitch...The Staggering Genius brought up a very good point.
I don't think the majority of people look to cheat.  I think those who end up cheating do so at a vulnerable point in their life; at a time when what they have in front of them is no longer fulfilling.  I'm not condoning cheating, I can just simply empathize with why people do.  As for the emotional cheating...I think at some point in our lives we have all been an emotional cheat.  I'm an emotional cheat, period.  There is no perfect relationship or marriage, in my humble opinion.  I take bits and pieces of other people to help complete me.  My husband is accepting of this.  For example:  Hubby is not a big conversationalist and doesn't like to philosophize about stuff.  I do!  I like my mind to be stimulated.  I have a VERY close male friend who is just the opposite of my husband.  He and I often endulge in deep conversations.  I'm drawn to his mind.  I'm intellectually turned on by our conversations.  So, that's my example of being an emotional cheat.

There are different kinds of cheating
There's the emotional cheating, where you cheat because you're in love with someone else. And then there's cheating just for sex. Which is worse, I don't really know...
