Hi Word
Good to be reading you again. I, too, am determined not to go crazy with spending this year. I want to do it right. Only a few years left with the kiddies at home........

Every year, the Christmas Season gets about a week longer. Amazing that October is beginning to get consumed by it. Live long enough, and we might see the Christmas Season begin in January. LOL

Me, too. I regret that we cannot be giving all year long. It would make things so much easier on everyone.

Aria,
I look forward to that too. After Christmas Day, we pile into our car and head out to St. Bess to see the relatives.

I don't blame the merchants. I think of Socrates, though; how he'd go to the Agoura (the Mall, in other words), look at all the wares and think, "Isn't it wonderful all the things I can do without."

It is
a play and then parents can by the matching comic
The teachers need to have their hands on the play early.
All makes sense we will market it through chain stores with stocking stufferes.
They won't get the chance to forget believe that one,

I think your last sentence is absolutely right on...but if everyone did that, the merchants would probably advertise Christmas all year long instead of starting in October!

Interesting fact that, Telly....
I imagine it has to do with information overload and finding a means of coping. Good thing you got out of that job....

Jo, good luck to you on that comic book....
July sound early, but won't people be likely to forget about it, unless you plan to have it out there during the intervening months between then and Christmas?

Yeah, I just finally got to the point where I simply could not do it any more. All my creativity just fled, couldn't draw, couldn't design, didn't want to. And it just kept getting worse until I finally broke down. But I guess nearly twenty five years of working in publishing will do that -- they did a study once, and found out that one profession that had the highest rates of alcoholism per employee was in newspaper publishing. I believe it.

Welllllllllll
I am writing a Christmas book with a friend. She has written a play and I am turning it into a comic.
We will be launching it in July.
I think the marketing ploys start to take on more meaning when it is you doing the marketing.

Rhiannon,
Perhaps merchants if they don't start blasting us with information from early on out, we'll not be wooed into buying stuff we don't need.

I'm glad you made the point as to whose birtday we're celebrating
The meaning of the season does get lost in commercialism. Any season. I was freaking when they started advance marketing Halloween the beginning of September. Rhiannon

I can only think about how stressful it must be for ad excutives and people who works in retail etc. I have one more thing to be thankful for at this time of year.

I do know what you mean by the whole Christmas thing. Working as I did in advertising, I'd start doing Christmas ads by the end of September, and by November was heartily sick of it all. Not to mention that it was the most grueling time of year, right up until christmas eve, at which it was the ceremonial time for the entire department to unscrew the bottles and get smashed once the last of the paper was put to bed.

I remember reading once...
...people lamenting the fact that Christmas cheer didn't last...but the author said that at least we have this peace, love and joy once a year...which is better than never at all. Kinda sad I guess but those feelings you mentioned are great ones!
