it has to do with a history of exploitation and support of repressive regimes, including Saddam's since WWII.

fwmystic, dude, sorry if I wasn't clear. "Anti-war crowd" refers to the far left element to whom America is always wrong, its military is evil, its soldiers are Nazis and baby-killers, and Iraq would be better off left to the terrorists or given back to the Baathists. This is a very, very small subset of "Disapproval of how the war is being handled." I've been a longtime disapprover of how it is being handled; we haven't been aggresive enough against the terrorists. Send in the Klingons, I say.
xeno-x, good to have you checking in. Please explain how you would defuse terrorists by getting them to like us. Also, please be aware of the dangers of getting everyone to like you. I'm very much anti-war. So much so that I say let's get the job done and rub these buggers out once and for all.
thatsoldier'swife ,polls mean whatever the pollster wants them to mean. Therefore they are maningless - and so are those (like a certain previous president) who make polls rather than absolutes of right and wrong his or her moral compasss.

there is a whole world out there and hundreds of millions of people who don't like us much.
we get more people to like us and then we defuse terrorists.
