Actually, DebbieDowner, things have grown quiet in Toledo. All this info
was learned after the fact by most people, but some of it, like leaking Szych's name as a possible person who contacted the neo-Nazis, was a precipitant.  Maybe not totally unavoidable, but a few little things, like more police presence and more restraint on the part of the black community would have been a big help.

I hadn't heard about that.  What a mess.  Tensions seem to have increased.

Although the authorities have to share in some of the blame with regard
to a situation getting out of control, legally thier hands were tied and they were just giving the community a heads-up.  The violence, the arson, the rock-throwing, the assaults were all ill-conceived acts and are punishable as crimes.  The irony rests in the fact that the white supremacists remained quiet and orderly during the entire incident, dispersing and disbanding sometime during the four-hour disturbance.

I think people should have the right to assemble so long as it does not infringe on other peoples rights. I saw this piece on our local news (Ohio)...quite frankly both were out of line, but the blacks took this one a tad too far and were definitely out of line and out of the boundry of the law. The gangs have to be dispursed in order to maintain civil obedience. I am not for any of these groups, all have an agenda. Most times that agenda is hate. Hate in any forum, or by any group is not acceptable! My 2 cents

I am great lover of freedom and I am glad in a point in your article you also shared that view. However, as for the violence, I think it's all the responsibility of the local authorities who called in the protest in the first place. Self control while it is best, is not easy to practice.
