Sort of like kids...
Sorry about the late response, for some reason your comments had to ripen for three days before the appeared on my search.

maj, thanks, the gate is working well. I wish to take Makeda and can't.

I hate that. Hate it. Her breathing has grown weaker this week and she has, too,  and I want to put her in my purse and take her everywhere with me. I hug her when I go to bed until I fall alseep, then she pulls away from me and settles herself where she wants to be. I'm too needy for her, silly old thing.

I picked her up today and held her like a baby puppy in my arms and she just stared at me, thinking me insane and worried, I'm sure, that I would drop her old self and hurt her. When I put her down, she was friendlier than when I held her....hated it. Won't do that again.

Why does it take twelve years for a dog to begin to speak to us and to understand us with total clarity? Puppies need this and only ancient doggies can do it. Sigh....

Maybe a change will do Makeda good.
Cograts on the elegant gate solution.
