Different kinds of suffering
There is suffering because we sin and continue to sin. Our fault. No rejoicing here!
There is sometimes suffering because we have been faithful ("bearing some fruit") and God is trying to grow our faith and character so that we can be prepared to be used by God from something bigger and better - to bear "more fruit" as talked about in John 15.

kooka--
Right, but I don't think God wants us to suffer. I think God, if there is such a thing, is entirely neutral, doesn't care one way or the other. As for the idea that happiness can only be found in an afterlife, I don't think that is peculiar to any particular religion. The problem with this sort of thinking is that so much which needs to be done to make this planet and all life more livable, is sloughed off because people think everything will be resolved in the afterlife. It's actually quite a selfish concept, I think. Hemlocker

actually god
doesn't seem to care
that's what Jesus said.
God is an equal opportunity being
he makes his rain to fall and his sun to shine on all equally.
that's what Jesus said.
But seriously folks
history is the teller of the tales
look at any affluence, or good thing -- look at any disaster -- and honestly you will find that all reap benefits or suffer alike, just as Jesus said.
smart man that Jesus.

I truly believe the " suffering" mentality among believers is a terrible fallacy. I do not believe God wants anyone to suffer.
