How about a

P.S. Please contact Symphony if you would like to contribute in sending the happy couple on a honeymoon!

Or some such wording... that way they get the hint that that is what the couple would like instead of a toaster.

Have fun with it!

Good luck with the wedding/birthday card, Symphony.....

that's a tough one to design, but I see you've got a great start with the one you show.   I don't know how you ask for money, and not gifts - that's a real tough one.  I think I would leave that one alone.  Asking for money would be being pretty bold, I think.  I would just let folks do what they will.  Anyway, best of luck on you designing and wording - I would love to see the finished product though.  You are a smart one, I'm sure you can do it.

Take care, love.     Bride & Groom   Airplane Wishes 2

Symphony,
How about a birthday cake and wedding cake together? Place a small pic of your Mum on the cake and the couple's pic on the wedding cake? This way, it is understood, without need for more words around the pics.

Below is a simple suggestion for your consideration:

Dearest relations and friends,
thank you for gracing our celebrations.
As you know,
we're getting along in age,
our home is established,
our material requirements are complete.
We appreciate all your kind thoughts for gifts
but cash is what we urgently need
to help us settle our needs.
We promise not to begrudge any amounts gifted,
givers named on the envelopes or anonymous.
Please forgive us for this preference for cash,
for that is what we need right now.
We love you all,
please come to our double celebrations,
of XX's 50th birthday,
and XX and YY's wedding.
Thank you,
from the bottom of our hearts.
With love from,
XX and YY.

(I'm sure you'll come up with better ideas soon. Good luck.)
From,
B.

ooooh jojo....you just made me think of something cheesy....LOL

Steve and I have been together a long time now, and a home we have already got..

But cash would be nice for a honeymoon that we haven’t got.

LOL....nope!

Are they doing a honeymoon at all? if so then you could use that to ask for money suggest that she has all the things that she needs but monetary gifts for the honeymoon would be appreciated. something like that. Of course you'd have to work it to make it ryhme.
