It makes me wonder if we really know what we're doing. It's the decision to be afraid that causes so much suffering and needless effort.

Surrender the need for security
I took a "financial security" tact on this the first time I read it.  Imagine how the world would be different if we could all "Surrender the need for (financial) security."  No regrets for not taking enough chances earlier in life!  No concerns about seniority at work.  No concerns about retirement benefits or vested 401K matching contributions.  No staying in dead end jobs or putting up with unethical managers.  Just quick, deliberate choices to do what we think is right for ourselves and our families... and no looking back.

Don't worry about that. From what I've witnessed, the most combative people spend the most time criticizing and condemning others. Then they are hypersensitive to remarks that would otherwise go unnoticed. Thanks for the comment.

I don't like battles but I like to engage and communicate and sometimes I'm surprised when people get all het up and think it's a battle.

Sorry that it's been a while between comments

Yes. The giver must have something to give, or it is an empty gesture.

You have an excellent point. If we use our egos to overcome adversity and achieve positive things for ourselves, then we have benefitted. But if the desire to achieve is driven by a negative self-image, or as a means to having security, then we are misusing it and suffering is inevitable.

Unfortunately, that is too much to ask for many.

Avant-thanks for this great post. We have to learn to love our self first and then others.

it depends which kind of battle we are involved in...
is it lyrical, mental or real? is it motivated by hatred or is our battle motivated by the will to succeed despite all?

If we can learn to see this world of illusion as it is, then love becomes the nurturer. Good post.
