It is the same principal that makes you say 'I have nothing to read' when there are over a thousand books surrounding you.

John,
With all the ideas there are, why at some points we can find absolutely nothing to write about?

Malcolm, you're welcome.

I agree about the ideas coming from anywhere, word.   I could never write up all the ideas I have.  Probably when I'm taking my last breath I'll be saying "I wonder how I can describe this long tunnel with the white light at the end?"

I agree
about knowing an audience is out there and I welcome any feedback - critical or supportive. Thanks for doing just that!

Yes, the interaction is what makes Blogit a place of choice.

Wordsmith
Thanks for the post.  I've heard that from many writers.  Read, read, read.  I like blogit though because I get to write my inane ramblings and people actually read them.  It's kinda cool.

Cunningham,

You're welcome. Keeping in practice,  I would agree, is a very important part of what  Blogit provides.  Truthfully, sometimes if it were not for Blogit, I wouldn't remember to write.

I agree Blogit doesn't

inspire serious writing for me either...except on one occasion, perhaps.  But it keeps me writing, and warmed up, and that is an important step in the writing process!

 Thanks for your post...

Debbie,

Don't be discouraged, I'm a newbie just like yourself. If you scroll down the page a little bit, you'll come to 2 postings I did on how I eased myself into the freelance market.  I have not had many things published. I would say that in total, in between the stuff that I have given away and what I have been paid for it would be a grand total of 10 articles. I think it takes persistence, discipline and a love for writing to keep going.

I haven't written any books. I don't think I'd be able to concentrate long enough to do that. Still, I've come across a website that serializes books for their audience. I submitted the start of a novel to them and I am waiting to hear from them. I think that would be on the only way I could write a book, bit by bit with a purpose. I don't think I could do it in a vacuum.

I would advise that you do as much reading as you can. That helped me a lot. I read up on everything I could get my hands on and it certainly paid off. Good luck and if there is any way that I can help, feel free to ask.

You and I seemed to have started on here for similar reasons.  The nearly instant feedback is very gratifying also.  It seems you've had a lot of articles published.  Do you know how many?  Have you written any books?

I would like to get into this freelance thing but I'm a little overwhelmed when it comes to figuring out how to get started.

Whimsy,

Weekend days  around here are slow, so it may be that people are away living.   I agree that there's no point in giving up. We can't produce the same level of writing each day, but we have to continue working just the same.  There's always something around here to spark inspiration. Thanks for stopping by.

Blog It encourages and inspires me...
As you said in your piece, the feedback and the knowledge that people are reading what I write encourages me to write but it's usually things in my own life or any number of things that inspire me. I do get some ideas from other people's writings but usually it's something someone says or an event or a name that will give me an idea for a story or a poem.

The past couple of weeks I've had a lot of people on Blog It reading my stuff but then today no one has been reading my posts and I always start to wonder why. But I don't give up. I just keep posting and figuring that something I write will have an impact. Or at least I hope it does. I think the key is not giving up even when you don't feel inspired.

Reading other writers inspires me.

Reading poetry like Rumi or Robert Frost, Rod McKuen inpires me.

Writing for at least 30 minutes, uninterrupted inspires me.

Walking on the beach, licking raindrops, inspecting a flower petal with a magnifier...

Attending something new, like a poetry reading, a different church than I have ever been to, a different restaurant, unsual food, friends....getting out of my reclusive rut...

Chocolate.
