What other people said or did
I think for me it all starts with what someone else said or did.  And when it continues, it becomes something more - I come to view them rejecting me and the things I hold dear.  If I am not careful, I allow them to become a symbol of all that is wrong with the world.

yes, hate is the antithesis of what we refer to as love, which is not love at all.

I think in many cases hatred is a resistance which reinforces
the idea we have about who we are. Its a means for the ego to cling to a static idea rather than giving itself up to the idea of fluidity and uncertainty. It is by saying "I hate rain" that we affirm our position as a "sunshine identity". Hatred makes us high, it strengthens who we are by emphasising who we are not. At the root, hatred is not evil, its dis-ease with the thought of paradox, of containing things other than who we are. It would not be necessary to hate if we accepted that our personality is not nearly as robust as we make out!
