i've met a lot of lying believers
when they want to get their way
sometimes they lie in the process of attempting to save souls and convert souls.
baptist deacon upstairs from me found nothing wrong with lying.
said if you're saved you can lie

kooka_lives -- to add to what Cantey_1975 is saying .....I've only ever
witnessed one incedence of person on person violence involving religion. It was way back when I worked for other people and was sitting in a lunchroom with the rest of the staff. One guy jumped up and grabbed a newly minted Born Again Christian by the throat and began screaming at him to shut up. This was something we all wanted to do in a big way but this guy beat us to it. Of course the annoying little dweeb who more than had it coming, distorted what really happened in his annoying the heck out of his coworkers, into calling it persecution of Christians. Yep, he pushed his religious message on a guy to the point of that guy wanting to choke him and then had the nerve to claim that the person he had antagonized to this point was persecuting him.

I mean
I KNEW they were out there. I dont want to come off as naive. But when you meet an atheist that describes very negative personal experiences( such as violence) they have had with christians, it makes me frustrated and sad.

Kooka

yes Blogit has seen its share of " Christians" who are kinda..well...unstable. I agree.

I was referring to in my life outside of the Blogit. I have never personally known Christians that fit the description of those you are describing in your post. Like the gang that was going to beat you up if you did not see things their way. THats really sad and pathetic, and it embarreses my faith to know they are out there. But judging vby some of the kooks I have seen around here, I guess it is not all that surprising.

cantey
How long have you been here on blogit? I'm sorry but I truly find that hard to believe. Right here on Blogit I have seen too many examples of both. Of course you never got to see some of the worst of them, since they left before you showed up. But there are still several here on Blogit still. There is even a new one who has been has shown himself to be a angry liar in Gomedome's comment section and has completely destroyed his credibility by trying to keep a lie going just to make himself look superior.

isn't it funny how life works? I personally have never met believers that were violent and liars. Not that I do not believe you. It's bad that all some people ever see of Christisnity is the rotton part.

kooka_lives -- I can't help but feel that you are giving a description of
a certain type of intellectual profile that is attracted to a religious belief based on faith, rather than a specific group of people. I have always found that the closer a person is to completely believing literal biblical translation, the further they are away from life's realities. The ability to submerge one's thought processes in an ancient text also is quite often accompanied by the inability to deal effectively with life's challenges. Why should it surprise any of us that those who are able to immerse themselves in a fantasy world cannot always tell the truth?
