it's the spirit these dogs possess that is so remarkable. thank you for sharing your family with me.

We've got a pitbull and a beagle mix (we call him a peagle) and he is the most loyal, loving dog I have ever had (I've had probably 10 dogs in my life). He will not back down from anything, will protect my wife with his life, and is my model for unconditional love.

thanks. it took me awhile to realize that i was projecting my fears onto him, which naturally made him defensive and uneasy. now, i love, love, love. the better i treat him, the better he treats everyone. it's truly amazing.

something funny...if i am off kilter somehow, animals and kids instantly know it. it seems that by 'living' the way we do, we think we are somehow smarter. i believe we lose our sensitivity, which is natural, by thinking and believing in our personal realities.

Bam-Bam--what a cute name.Avant, I love this post. You say so eloquently what so many other pit bull owners feel in their hearts about their own dog.

i had an American Staffordshire Terrier (Pit Bull Breed) when I was a kid. He was as you describe BamBam, and he was great wtih our cocker spaniel and cats...never killed or hurt a thing, big lover. Went blind after a bout with distemper and had to be put to sleep. A big loss for us all.

i thought petie was a pit, too, until i read an article in dog fancy. he was actually an am staff. close enough, huh? they are truly great dogs. it breaks my heart when they bust a dog fighting ring. are these dogs slavering monsters? or, are they heartbroken and sad. one look in their faces tells the story.

my wife was scared of him for awhile, but she hangs all over him, as do the kids. he just looks at me with a smile. he loves it.

Avant-garde-your post reminds me of my dog Sheila who is a mixed breed here self. Her mother is Dalmation and her father is a Pitbull. She is white and black. You compare your dog to a lion and I do the same with my dog Sheila. Sheila likes to fight and run. She has so much energy and I compare her with a lion. Interesting!

This is a very nice post. I think the pit bull has an undeserved reputation. One of my favorite show was The Little Rascals, Petie was a loveable pit bull

avant-garde, this was soooo beautiful! Even though these types of dogs
scare me to death, I know you're right here and I LOVED what you wrote. This was one of the best stories I've read in a while.
