Flame Thrower, well, to follow your logic, we Americans should be acting
like Native Americans (Indians) in our areas. Here in Arizona, we should behave as the Apache, Navajo, Hopi, Pima, O'Odham, Yaqui, etc. (pick one) behave, as they were here first. Or, we should behave as the Mexicans and Spanish, as they were here second. We should act like the original people of the Host Nation, no? NO....we all end up melting together, it just takes some time.
The first generation always is more like the country that they just left, than like the one they just arrived in, but that has always been so, all over the world. The Spanish speaking people were living here in Arizona 200 years before the Whites (Anglos) ever arrived. Then we took their lands AND the Indians' lands. We were pretty selfish, nasty, greedy people, in spite of our religious beliefs, I think.
Time turns all immigrants into 'mainstream' citizens within about two generations, patience is all that is needed. This is true in almost all nations.
Thanks for reading me and commenting every time.....

Your article was very edifying, because I think it always worthwile to learn another language even if it is not economically viable. Besides new languages well learn helps to understand other people culture better. However, those resisting the use of let say spanish brought in the states by the wave of latin Americans, also have a point. YES to learn their language but they have to adapt to the culture of their host nation. it is a two way affair. It should not be as I have seen in religion where by western nations accept moslems but they seldom accept westerners nor their culture not to mention religion.
