Also, Locks of Love is awesome organization. When I worked at the salon we donated about 4 ponytails a week to them.  Kudos to your son for being such a good citizen.

I've been through it all with hair.  I never did like it short, but I can tell you one thing with certainty: hair is a major source of discrimination for the narrow minded.  I won't go into a list of the idiotic factors that people base discrimination upon; it would far exceed the size of a comment page.

I would like to say that discrimination based on moronic criteria has been reduced, but I don't believe that to be true.  It has changed, but it is far from gone.  Your son can get by with the discrimination, perhaps successfully, but it will create a barrier for him.  Of course, if he wears his hair short, he will be discriminated against for that in certain circles.  Let him do what he likes, but make him aware of what he will encounter and why.
