Jacenta,
Thanks for reading and commenting. It would be very hard not to be good to those children. Well, I guess for most people it would be hard. Obviously, their own families have deep issues and haven't been able to show themselves or their children goodness or love. It is a real shame.

cosy,
Thanks. I think there are a lot of people like me in their state of hearts. I'm no one special, just one who has been lucky enough to have these children come into my life.

Calebs blogger,
Thanks for your comment. Actually, God gave me the privilege of working with those kids. I think that when we wonder if there is more we could do to help people, we need to first pray and ask God to show us the way, and then be open to His suggestions. He will put those in need of our help right in our paths.

I am fighting back tears
Your post is very moving.  I find myself feeling selfish for not doing more to help others.  Thanks for letting God use you in a mighty way!

Rame,
Good Write. It is didfficult to step out of our comfort zone, but it is oh so worthwhile when we do and I have proven time again that God does reward our kindnesses, even when we expect no reward for what we do.

Rame, Good Post and thank you also for stopping by and commenting on "Road Work" I believe we are rewarded for good deeds given and God does love us and those that are willing to give without expecting anything in return will be rewarded in return in due time.

Aria4,
Thanks for stopping by and commenting. I hadn't thought of that but you're right, it is reminiscent of the saying, "It is more blessed to give than to receive." It is more blessed because when you give from the heart and unconditionally, you receive so much more in return. Sometimes it is material, but always you get spiritual gifts in return. Thanks for pointing that out.

Sannhet,
Thanks again for reading and commenting.  Being grandma isn't  at all bad, even if it isn't your own flesh and blood. It's wonderful receiving the hugs and love from those precious children.

This reminds of the saying it is a blessing to give than receive.

Ainsley,
I never thought of it that way. You're right, since there is no way you can't give without getting something back, there is no way you can perform a totally unselfish act. Well...maybe there is. You can give out of the goodness of your heart and not expect anything back, just giving to do good. The things you get in return should have no impact on your reason for giving. It's complicated, isn't it.

There is no way that you can't give without getting something out of it...

...or, at least, that's how I feel.

Therefore, there's no such thing as a truly unselfish deed!

No matter--we should keep it up!

Blessings!
AJ

Legend has it that, one day,
a young man was walking along the beach
when he came across an old man picking up starfish
that had washed ashore and tossing them back into the ocean.

He informed the old man that there were thousands of starfish
along countless miles of beach...

"Do you really believe that you can save them all?" he asked.

The old man, without a word, bent over
and picked up another starfish,
tossed it out into the ocean,
and, then, responded:

"I saved this one!"

Keeping that in mind, please read this!

sassyass,
Yes, sometimes when you give of yourself to others, you get nothing but a kick in the pants for it. Well, not exactly. You see, when you do something for others out of the goodness of your heart, whether they appreciate it or not, you get grace for it. God sees what you do and knows your intent. You WILL be rewarded, if not in this life then in the next. He also sees the intent of the person who took advantage of you. He WILL NOT be rewarded unless he repents. It's never for nothing. I do know how it feels and so does my husband. We have been taken advantage of more than once but, just because a few people are that way, it doesn't mean everyone is and it is still to "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." Thanks for reading and for your comments. I appreciate it a lot.

I totally agree with your concept
but I have learned that this does not work for everyone. Sometimes when you give of yourself freely, others take advantage of your good intentions.
