- Go to Bush Takes Responsibility for Katrina Problems!
Thanks for reading!
Twodog, to draw the Florida non-parallel out even further, we have Jesse Jackson demanding that all victims of Katrina receive the same compensation as the families of victims of September 11. I knew that precedent would come back to haunt us, but it is utterly disingenuous for Rev. Jesse to make such a demand now when he was silent about the victims of the four hurricanes of Florida. Gee, I wonder what had more to do with it: the ethnicity of the victims, or the prominence of the soapbox in making such a foolish demand?
fwmystic, good to see you aboard again. Responsibility for putting FEMA under Homeland Security falls on Congress. Shrillary herself, who has started bitching - the perfect application of the term - about making FEMA a cabinet-level department was one of those who voted to make it so. Personally, I don't see the FEMA/Homeland Security relationship as being an issue; given that it took FEMA a month to mobilize after Hurricane Hugo creamed Charleston under the Clintons' watch, I'd say it's performing much better now than under Bubba's direction.

How about taking responsibility for gutting FEMA...
rolling it into Homeland "Security," and appointing political hacks with no disaster experience?

Isn't it strange that Florida, hit six times since August 2004, didn't have the same problems experiencecd by Louisiana. Could it be, Governor Bush, has a disaster response plan that the state actually follows? I know folks like to think the only reason Florida was so successful intergrating local, Tribal, State, and Federal disaster response is because the Governor is the President's brother, but, a sibling relationship, no matter how strong, is just that, a sibling relationship. The disaster response mechenisisms had to be in place, initiated, and followed through no matter the relationship between the brother's Bush. And remember, Mike Brown was the FEMA Director before, during, and after the many Florida Hurricans.
