I was always made to believe
that happiness is temporary, but joy, in the Christian sense, is a more lasting feeling that takes longer to find.

Lovely and oh SO True
The reminder is greatly appreciated.  It's way too easy for me to forget...get up, get going and by the time I can take a breath, things are happening and I forget that I am the Captain of my fate.  I'm the one that determines the outcome of my life.  THANKS  for telling it so elequently.

Will you stop giving opinions so like mine? I have nothing to comment about!

Beautiful post, Quirky

and thanks for the reminder!  I am generally a very optimistic person, and like to see the good side of things, but sometimes I do need to be reminded of all the things I have going for me!

Have a good one!

Quirky...
Couldn't agree more.  Happiness is a choice but it is not always easy.  Sometimes it does require effort to follow through with your happiness.

I agree, happiness is a choice, though I like the word contentment better because happy moments are fleeting, like any other mood. Happy moments are treasures that should be stored in a safe place so that when we're experiencing less than happy moments, we can open our internal treasure chest and bring them out one by one to remind us that this too shall pass. Quirk I don't think we control our fate but I do believe we control
the outcome of things to come. How we choose to deal with whatever comes our way is totally up to us. Like Ariala said, "see the glass half full or half empty". I agree that the mind is a powerful thing...and yes, switching our trail of thoughts to positive drive definately is a big influence in our lives!

Quirky...
I do think that we are in control of our destiny, be it happiness, contentment, or the negative.  I wouldn't have said this 5 years ago when I was emotionally destrought and confused.  It's VERY HARD to overcome negative habits or negative mindsets that have developed in us through out our lifetime.  It's hard to re-train ourselves to think a new way.  BUT, kudos do those who keep trying.  There is something positive to be found in every situation that impacts our lives.  I'm not saying there is always something GOOD, but there is always a positive way of looking at that which challenges us.

yes, i made that choice this morning. i was brought up a very negative and fearful person. it's in me pretty deep. for a long time, i would have to literally talk my way out of it every morning. this morning, i was thinking negatively for no apparent reason. then i started loving. i loved my kids, my wife, my dogs. i feel totally different now. thanks for the reminder.

very true

Have you seen "What the bleep do we know"?  or is it "What the bleep do you know?"

It's amazing to see that our thoughts actually change the outcome of experiments.  The water experiment comes to mind.  If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it.  It's proof that what your post is saying is true.

Hi.. We all seek out happiness and find those moments in the simple little things in life

nice one quirky

it just reminds me that happiness has to be my decision, if I rely on others to make it, I'm gonna be waiting a while!

'They' say
it is a choice....however it just happens to me....cuz the times I try to be happy I just get pissed cuz I have to try so hard. I believe there is a reason why we have hot and cold, mad and sad.......you know, so we will be able to tell the difference.
