actually modern proponents
misread king james
which mistranslates
one thing about thew word, "nature" as used in the KJV re: homosexuality -- it means "animal nature" -- meaning that what is natural is just like the animals do. food for thought there -- maybe we should watch animals have sex more often?
again, the homosexuality as condemned is "allow men to abuse" -- this could apply to heterosexuality as well, particularly women. but also in the Corinthian society in particular, people had homosexuality forced upon them in a manner fo speaking -- if you wanted to get ahead insociety, you had to attend banquets where the host, being rich, had just about the only meat available (having been offered to idols and the priest then giving it to him), and then, if you attended those parties and wanted to get further in society, then you had to submit to homosexual advances.
this is entirely different from two people of the same sex loving each other in the same manner as two people of a different sex.
biology and related sciences have demonstrated that homosexuality is common throughout species -- in fact, you can find males in primates that offer themselves sexually to the dominant male (much like underlings bow and scrape to CEO's of corporations) -- I remember one time on the science channel or a nature documentary on PBS one time where it was stated that "10% of albatrosses are homosexual". so it's natural.
our problem mainly is our natural bias and revulsion at it. It is hard to look at.
a theologian of our time said of Paul's letters, "It's like we have interecepted letters meant for other people at another time." There are eternal verities; however, there is much that is provincial and applies to the First Century there -- and only the First Century. We can go through several directives found in Paul's writings and find that the Christians who hold his condemnation of contemporay homosexual practices as being "gospel" would explain around various other pronouncements.

Kooka_lives -- most people are completely ignorant on much of what you have
covered in this posting. Forced abstinence or celibacy was all about insuring that those in the service of the church produced no heirs and really nothing more. It was a ploy to insure that the wealth of the church stayed intact and could not be layed claim to by the sons and daughters of the church hierarchy. It was the one strategy that worked universally and within the inheritance laws of all countries the church of Rome had infiltrated. But people cannot see these things clearly once they have had a bible lobotomy.
