Vane, it's that terrible fear of the unknown
that prevents a lot of people from doing anything in their lives.

Katray, you are also one
of those people that is aware of their surroundings, which makes a big difference too.

Cynthia - some people have a security issue ...
How many people put up with crap at their jobs year in and year out just so they won't lose their job. I've switched employers every three years since I was 17 years old. It's rarely a pleasant experience, but occasionally I run into someone who is still where I used to be 10-15 years later and I realize how little they have changed and how much I have.

it is shocking for people who know the world to think of such a possibility.  I couldn't imagine spending all my life in the same spot.  Let alone growing so attached to it, that I wouldn't abandon in it the face of crisis.  The situation in New ORleans is just very sad

Indeed it is hopeful Cynthia
I moved 30 miles from my hometown several years ago. The difference of a few miles was amazing; almost like a whole new world. I retain an adventurous spirit; would love to live in many different locales before I die. Better get moving, lol. Great post.

Nickie-Fleming, it's great
that you have a place you really feel comfortable in. I like my current home too, but I'm always a little restless.

Whacky, My mom is one of those
folks. Maybe that's why I'm the opposite.

Joe_Love, That other blog of mine
is actually a memoir that is all connected. It's chronological. If you go back to the first post (I was one of the early members here when it was called THE BLOGGING NETWORK) that's where it starts. Right now I'm in a crucial year of 1985 on that blog. I'm working from the journals I kept at that time and rewriting them.

MayB, I know what you mean
for me, living in different places, different countries made me feel different about myself and made me see my country, my city, in a whole different light.

Cynthia,
I also love change - like we change the furniture around in our house/flat at least once a year. But at the same time I love the place where I was born and raised. Guess for me going off to the unknown is OK, as long as I can return to my home...

I think that for many
any kind of change is scary.

Cynthia
I'm enjoying this blog very much. I was following your other blog, but a few weeks ago switched to this one since you hadn't updated your other one in awhile.

Amazing isn't it Cynthia? A hell of way to have one eye's opened. If I leave it too long to go somewhere different, have a change of scenery, other languages, I go a little bit crazy although I strangely I find it much more effort to travel these days. Mind you, travel does not necessarily teach people a thing. I enjoy being among others more than I enjoy visiting a destination.
