I don't know how it goes in England, but here in the States a no is clearly a no, even a nice no is clearly a no. That has been my experience. This sounds like a possibility. I usually ask for a check upon acceptance unless they state they do not pay that way. In such a case they will kindly decline or invite me to try again later. I think you might send in an article again in three to six months. See what their response is then. Keep marketing those articles to others, they have no business holding them up for such an indefinite time. I just went back through and checked out a few I had not read. BB

I come back to find that you are submitting work to magazines and everything. Way to go Symph. You have come an amazingly long ways in the last year, and I'm so proud of you. The key word was the if, but it leaves the door cracked. Keep going girl.

they used the word "if"
so that means they like your work, and if they can fit it in, they will publish it and pay you for it.
I would ask them one question. You need to know for how long they will consider your article. If it is not published in 1, 2, or 6 months, then can you submit it to someone else.
