SF70, According to my mother, if she remembered to put the hat in her pocket the turkey wouldn't chase her.

Your mom sounds like a cool lady! But I don't get the hiding the hat in the coat thing. What does that do to stop the turkey chasing?

Your mother sounds like a heck of a woman.  I'll bet it wasn't always easy growing up with a parent who expected so much of herself.  I haven't read Halberstam's book about the 50s.  Probably I would like it.  Thanks for the tip.  Hemlocker

Make sure you treasure each one of your mother's stories. Get her to record them, write them down. My mother always meant to do that for me and never got around to it. It will never happen now.

God, family is so important.  You're lucky to have those stories.  And BTW--I had neighbors who had an attack turkey for years.  Said it was the best damn watch dog they ever had...
