go hand in glove. Underneath it all, I'm thinking there's doubt and fear -- doubt that the god they imagine really exists and fear that they've actually got to think for themselves. So they get louder and "more certain" and they decide to fill the pews reserved for them in heaven with people they've converted. It's that "knowing" attitude that leads to misguided missionary expeditions.
Indigenous peoples have deeply held belief systems, customs and morals that work perfectly well for them, only to have outsiders intervene with their ideas of god. Everything gets screwed up, family lifestyles are disrupted, histories are forgotten, there's misery, disruption, crime, and futility.
