that is so true. i can see shame in my son's face when he makes a mistake. it makes such a difference to hold him and tell him i still love him. he perks right up.

You nailed it on the head. As children many of us received that message over and over. As a parent I know that I am sometimes guilty of forgetting to remind my children that they made a mistake but that I still love them none the less. I hope and pray that all of the positive reinforcement I give them far outweighs the "mistakes" I make as a parent...at least I think it does.
