It's the battle of the buldge...

I work out every day and am very consciencious about my diet.  I'm 5'5", medium build and I've weighed 145 for the last ten years and just get any lighter.  I have gained muscle and lost weight, but I would like to loose  the love handles. Is it being over 40? or peri-mentapause?

I agree. However, the medical community needs to stop

pushing diet pills to any lumpy housewife who says she "just can't do it."

On the other end of the spectrum lies doctors who show little support and no concrete information other than "eat less, do more" to those seeking help.  I should know.  When I approached my doctor concerning my frustration over losing weight after the birth of my third child--"eat less, do more" was the only advice he could offer.  That was it.  No "let's figure out your caloric intake and decide how much you should be eating (compared to now)"--nothing.

Luckily, I found someone who could help me, and went on to lose 50 lbs by myself.  One year later I competed in my first half marathon.

However, to this day I still remember the anger I felt towards this medical "professional" with his glib response to a legitimate question.
