I liked the movie - I love Zach Braff on
Scrubs, one of the few really funny shows on TV - but Portman's cliche' "quirky chick" character got on my nerves. But she's so cute I'm sure she would have been less annoying if I were a guy or a lesbian. I will say that she did annoy me less by the end.

Madame P.O.
I can't say that I agree with you when you say guys wouldn't hang out with ugly girls no matter what the girl is like. But I agree with you when you say Natalie Portman portrays a particular kind of girl in the movie Garden State -- a crazy kind. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge Natalie Portman admirer. But, then again, I wouldn't be if she were fugly.

thanks for the visit and for agreeing with me. You believe there's some people out there who don't agree with me?! Sheesh...
the kumquat is an accurate portrayal of a penis, yes. Or, a penis is an accurate portrayal of a kumquat. Either way, I agree with you.

No guy willingly spends time with an ugly woman...
no matter
how she behaves ... in movies
or anywhere else.
Oh, and, "Garden State" (
no "The") is a much smarter, more resonant film than you give it credit for. (Perhaps, it's a "generational thing".)
Oh, and, Portman's character is a very accurate portrayal of a certain type of young woman. When she makes her spontaneous noises, she herself happily acknowledges she has no "legitimate reason" for doing so.
And the Grinch, with his grinch-feet ice-cold in the snow,
stood puzzling and puzzling: "How could it be so?
It came without ribbons! It came without tags!
"It came without packages, boxes or bags!"

You have it right on the kumquat....the truth of the biological imperative.
It is imperative that men not think with their brains...they must think with their kumquats. I've decided that would have been a much better name for the penis than penis...the kumquat! Anyway, I'm agreeing with you.

Misery is one of my favorites.
Kathy Bates was perfect.

You couldn't be more correct!
Change the characters from old to young or from ugly to cute and you change the whole film. Kathy was great in Misery, wasn't she?
