A real treasure, Symphony........

so often the elderly are thought of as just that - old and no longer needed.

God bless your Nan - surely God is enjoying her!  Thank you so much for sharing that.  It is priceless!

wonderful
touching - i do caregiving part of the time, and find myself so aware of who the women I take care of really are. My mother was killed in '02, and i miss her. I always end up feeling like I have been allowed to 'borrow' the pleasant experiences I get to have with other's moms, and I treasure them.

SYMPHONY, I couldn't help but write a post on this.   You can read it at Go to Run, Run As Fast As You Can!  if you wish to.   It is quite different from yours.

SYMPHONY, I am now older than many of the patients that I worked with in the Healthcare Center as a nurse and who fit the description given in the poem.   I know that, the way time flies, before I know it, Iwill either be one being cared for by others or already gone.  It is "the way of all flesh" as The Bible puts it.  When my Dad was the age that I am now and still vigorous and mentally acute, he pointed out to me a chapter in Ecclesiastes and said, "One day soon I will be like that."    Yes, that day came and went and now its after me.  I have come to terms with it, though I will run as fast as I can for as long as I can.   I will not go willingly into that place.

SYMPHONY

What a lovely poem.  I refuse to let go of my inner child...she runs rampant often. =)

You have got to be kidding, Schatz
I had a shitty childhood thats part of the reason to want to be a child again because I didn't get a "proper" childhood! and how I wish I could.

Beautiful, and very moving.  I see myself on that path, and I hope my kids don't forget me!!

I would never go back....I had a cruel childhood.  I love being thirty, married and having my three young ones.  I know it's different for all of us.  You're lucky you had a good childhood.  You'll see happiness again.

Wonderful poem
let your children dream it ends all too soon without rushing...and miracles can happen. I've seen em.

I love your Nan's poem,my granny used to write too.
But Symphony, let your children dream now,it is their age to do so.Reality will sink in later, let it take its course. At least by that time, they will have their memories, just as you do, and your Nan did before you!

Great post, Sym! Life is short. It progresses in the way we each choose as we move along. We can live sadly with regret, or we can make the best of each precious moment.

i see people in rest homes a lot, and i think about that. i know they've had rich lives and experiences. i try to remember that when i deal with them. thank you.

Your Nan's poem is lovely.. It is sad that people can become old and trapped within themselves where noone seems to see them anymore.  ...... Please don't give up on your dreams.. You are young with so much time ahead of you.. Try to remember this quote: " You are today where your thoughts have brought you. You will be tomorrow where your thoughts take you.".... SYMPHONY

"Dark is upon me, my husband is dead,

I look to the future I shudder with dread,

For my young are all busy, rearing young of their own,

And I think of the years and the love that I have known"

How wonderful that she lives on in you my friend. Of course I can identify with her, bless her, and you luv.

Symphony,

I don't think I'll ever grow up, really!!....Sadly, most of the things you describe in your daily life I'll never know...Some of that is of my own chosing...Some isn't.  Never be afraid to follow your heart!!  God will give you all you desire if it is His will.

Your Grandma's poem is beautiful....
