Go to GRANDMA'S GARDEN

- Go to Garden is veritable mosquito growing lab. Unused to these rains.
deks, we are in a ten year drought and This Year had rain, Rain, rain.
You could actually hear the plants weeping with joy. The desert cacti here, however are dying from wet feet. I had to dig them up and pot them on the porches, away from water, to save them.

While you have plenty of rain, Southeastern Ohio is in a bad drought.

gosh, maj, they keep saying when outdoors, when outdoors. Mine eat me
inside the house, day and night, no let up, no dawn to dusk, nada. That site that you referred me to makes it all seem so easy. I wear scarves and boots and long sleeves and they bite the underside of my wrists while I type here, as I can't see them down there. Son of a ....gun.

Oh, one more thing...
since you aren't supposed to put insecticide under your clothes, I found in the field that a zone of CamphoPhenique, (and, to a lesser degree, Vicks Vapo Rub) under the sleeve and pants leg lines and maybe the neck and button line will kep out chiggers pretty well, maybe skeeters too.

OK:
http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dvbid/westnile/mosquitorepellent.htm
Permethrin is used to kill head lice in over the counter preparations. Kills ants well too
MIxed with pyrethrins, it heightens their activity, but then is not approved for use on the person. Yet.

Allegedly the FDA has approved a new no-DEET repellent. I'll check
Put a little oil in each saucer under the plant. It will kill the larvae by forming a film, and the water will not evaporate so fast. Maybe spray some PAM, or a little three in one...thin stuff.
We had "damp earth" mosquitoes in eastern Nebraska. All they needed was heat and rain, no puddles involved. Big buggers. Raid Yard Guard did work, but it is off the market here.
Try pyrethrins, artificial copy of marigold extract. Forget UV lights and noisemakers. This autumn build "houses" for bats and swallows?

wiley, what chemicals does it use? I am allergic to so many....sigh...
anything with DEET just floors me, makes me jittery like a dying mosquito myself. I'll go look for some at the store and read the ingredients on the container. Thanks for the heads up.
