I try to tip 20 per cent. My brother and my nieces and nephews
have all worked as waiter/waitresses at some point in their lives.

Ah, but you are a sensitive manager
because you've been there. We usually tip at least 15 per cent.

I base it all on customer service.
As a general rule, I try to tip 17%-20%. If know you from outside there and we're friends, I'll tip more.

Bad customer service reduces the percentage a lot. If your manager is a jackass and comes around greeting people at every table but mine, the waitperson gets the regular tip but I may not come in again.

I can understand the reasoning behind the included service charge. The same rule would apply. Bad customer service would mean the waitperson doesn't get anything extra.

Bad customer service: Things like talking with your coworkers and forgetting that we ordered two hamburgers and letting 15 minutes pass beyond the time we should have been served.

I agree tip should be included in the bill.  I, however have always tipped really well, 20% and above, because I worked one day as a server and quit.  More power to you.

my niece used to work at a "national chain" restaraunt...one of those
places you can find in just about any big city in the U.S.  When they would have groups of 6 people or more, they would automatically put a "service charge" in the bill.  She would write her little note, like, "thanks and have a great evening," over the service charge.  She found most people would then not realize they had already paid a "tip" and they would tip again.  Sneaky, eh?
