Wow, Krisles
I'm kind of envious. Our weather here is soooooo hot, we aren't getting to enjoy things like Lakefest. It sounds like you had a WONDERFUL time.

I don't live on the lake this is going to take place on...and this is an annual event so it's not usually this hectic; although, the area is much busier than where I live.  I live on a fairly large lake, but in a fairly quiet cove.  All the houses around me are owned by weekenders, for the most part, so I have it to myself during the week and throughout the week offseason...nice and quiet. In season, it's busy on the weekends, but not that bad.  Thanks for reading.

I live on a very quiet lake. If I had tourists like this lake in the post, I would go nuts.

Thanks! That was a great memory I really hadn't thought a lot about in years...this will be nice to have! (To tell you the truth...those guys were soooo in love with their horses, it was a little heartbreaking to all of us ladies in the office!)

Thanks, Sweet Tea! I should have a lot of fun...Sunday is when the best of the race should be, so I'll probably go later tomorrow to see the boats, people watch and look at some art and stuff...then go back to hear some tunes, have some beer...they had a street dance last year that was a lot of fun.  I think the neighbors are having a party and that's usually pretty wild for the neighborhood....they go all out a few times each summer and it's about time for one of those....we'll see!

Great, thanks very much.  I'll enjoy rereading that.

Dang woman... you have been busy! I can't believe the diet thing (you know Strat) but the thought of a blizzard right now sounds like nothing short of heaven...

Have fun tomorrow~~

Here's the link to that letter. The charge! I was on the ground with them, their level! I was peering between the boards of this old fence that surrounded the big arena - this was the old American Royal arena ...huge old wooden building in the stockyards in Kansas City....dirt floor throughout...80+year history even at that time.  Those red coats way at the other end...and, you're so right about the hats! I've got adrenelin going right now just remembering it because you just cannot imagine being down on the level looking at that sight coming right at you!!!!!!

Yes, I do remember that letter, but send it, because I'd like to read it again.  I remember it being fascinating.

You've seen the Mountie charge?  That's fantastic.  I'm Canadian and I've never seen it....   Well, on TV a few times, but never in person.  They always seem to lose a couple of hats by the time they get to the end.  With all the thundering and dust flying that you described so well, I'm sure it's a vastly different experience from TV, like most things.

Did you ever read my post of my visit to the cabin my gr-gr-grfather built and the letter my g-g-gmtr wrote during the civil war? If not, I'll send the link to you. The Mounties!!! I worked for an ad agency who did the PR for a big horse show held in KC when I first moved there. Michele was three. The Mounties were the main show...big arena..I'm at one end, looking through a wood fence as they lined up across the opposite end in their red coats and "charged" toward my end..the ground shook, the dust flew...I'll never forget that thrill! I had a press pass and got to take Michele back to where they had slept in stalls with their horses, talk to them; they put her up in the saddle..it was great!

Krisles...

I saw the "DQ" in your title and I somehow knew there'd be the word "Blizzard" in your post, haha.  Good for you.  So you finally made it.

Indians, Pony Express.  Man, now that's romance.  I used to read about that fine stuff when I was a kid.  In fact, I knew all about things like Custer's Last Stand before I even knew about our own Mounties' Lost Patrol or the Battle of Batoche.   You're lucky to live so close to these relics of history.  As always, I enjoy your ad hoc observations of what's around you.  If I can't buy my own ticket there, I just click on Krisles

It didn't have a "straight font"...
it was italicized.

Anyways, the author of the "screaming passengers" quote is Will Shriner. Whoever he is.

i love chili, i haven't had good chili in ages. I used to get chili cheese fries, at place in DC. We don't have very good chili here either. It's too bad. I'm jealous

Why thank you (for the compliment), Krisles!
I was going to send my pic to the Blogit photo page (still may), but, I figure I'll try to dangle it out there as a lure ... for, at least, a few more days.

We have "Dairy Queens" here. I was just playing!

Bummer! I just had double-fudge chocolate cookie dough Blizzard...I usually have the chocolate extreme one...when I allow myself!  I don't go that often..but it's the only fast food in the little town by my lake house...and I crave a Diet Coke with lime and sweet tea every odd day....that dang Strat and Lensman got me craving the chili cheese and ice cream....

Y'all don't have DQ's evidently....sorry about that....soft serve.....you'll have to look them up for the history....they're everywhere I've ever lived down here (Tx,Ok,Ks,Mo,)...not the best but they have great cold treats....and good when you've got the munchies.

Ask and ye shall receive...
In the early days, typesetters used blocks of type that were mirror images of the letters. Therefore, it was quite easy to mix up lowercase "p"s and "q"s. Thus, the term "mind your Ps and Qs" became synonomous with being careful and paying sharp attention.

P.S. Dairy Queen?
