Go to Religion in the Modern World

thelongroad -- good -- you have returned to your hilarious form
Let's start with this one. "Given the fact that you have already put Christianity on trial and sentenced it by your own ignorance, no one should take your comments seriously."
Truth of the matter is that the use of the word "ignorance" is not very accurate. I have an extensive Christian indoctrination in my background and can safely say I know more about the Christian religions, their history and the origins of the many myths and fables that it was fabricated upon than most people. I don't consider my little crusade as putting it on trial, it is more an effort to get people like yourself to realize that you have to share this planet with people like myself without trying to make me conform to your religion and live by your religion's standards. A daunting task to be sure.
It's based on nature and facts. These sexual practices lead to a rapid spread of STDS, and psychological studies have proven that children need a male and female parent figure for normal development. The irony is that Christians are living in a society where the gay lifestyle is being crammed DOWN our throats and forced us to accept it. Soon, churches will be forced to accept gays in their congregation as law.
I don't know where to start with this one but think that this may be good fuel for a post on it's own.
"The sad fact is that you are deluded. Satan is a very real being, and you have absolutely NO proof to show that Satan is a mere invention."
yeehaw... it's a stand up comedy routine. Yeah I do have proof. Barely 1/3 of the Earth's populace believe him to be real as he is a purely Christian invention. Derived from ancient mythology and given an evil personification to act as foil to the forces of good. I can show you this fictional character's development and progression through history if you would like. I can also say with absolute certainty that he never appears or has influence on those who do not believe in him.....why do you think this is so?
We can take the next two together.
I don't know where you live, but I don't see any Christians forcing religion down your Godless throat.
An atheist society has no moral basis. What is your right to say that X is right or wrong? Because the legal system says so? Reality check - most of the US laws are based on Christian principles.
I would think before a person such as yourself decides to condem another person by suggesting they have no morals they would find out just a little bit about them. But in your black and white world just hearing that I do not subscribe to your brand of religious lunacy was enough. Reality check --- I am not an American and the world is not one big extension of America. The laws of all societies on earth have a basis in ancient religious doctrines. As much as you would like to claim credit for Christianity bringing law and order to the planet, the truth is that most of the principles that are incorporated into societal law as found in the bible are derived from writings by both Zarathrustra and the laws of social hierarchy as found in Sumerian culture. There is no fear of there ever being a truly Athiest society, just being free from Christianity will do for starters.

thelongroad --you've just gone from being funny to scary and representative
of exactly why Christianity as a meaningful faith system is beyond redemption.
Given the fact that you have already put Christianity on trial and sentenced it by your own ignorance, no one should take your comments seriously.
"Unconditional love is not the same thing as tolerance. We should love all people, gays or not, but that does not mean we should stay silent and not inform the people that the practice is sinful and wrong."
No one suggested they are the same thing. I even stayed away from how people like yourself spew hatred under the guise of love. Sinful and wrong? This is based entirely on your beliefs and nothing else, therefore you are happy to attempt to control the sex lives of strangers based on your beliefs. Does it not register somewhere in your bible lobotomized brain that sticking your nose into the bedrooms of others is beyond your rights as a citizen?

The grand master plan of Satan. Divide and Conquer.
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ..hee he he hee. blame it all on Satan. Invent invisible friends and enemies, then transfer all personal responsibility to them.....this always makes me howl. By your reasoning and the fact that denominational splintering is accellerating within the Christian faith......it won't be long now before good ol Satan kicks Christianity's butt.
The sad fact is that you are deluded. Satan is a very real being, and you have absolutely NO proof to show that Satan is a mere invention.
The Christian nature only demands that you recognize that you are a sinner and incapable of being a perfect human like Jesus Christ.
So when are the numbers of Christian adherants that actually recognize this going to become more than a very small minority within the faith system?
I don't know where you live, but I don't see any Christians forcing religion down your Godless throat.
If you believe "sin" does not exist then you have no morals, no real sense of right or wrong.
To suggest that I have no morals is a pretty harsh accusation without knowing a thing about me but I must consider the source. It is coming from a person who has invisible friends and enemies that they can conveniently blame their shortcomings on. A person that is incapable of understanding that they do not have faith in the real sense but have locked their limited mental abilities in a never ending loop of reconciling their delusion with reality. A person who also holds a disdain for all of those who do not believe as they do and has not one ounce of respect for any other person's faith system. Like I said, you are going from being funny to scary. The scary party being that your antiquated mindset has somehow survived 2 millenia and a North American education to have an adult spewing such nonsense in the year 2005.

that loves people so much that it compells them to march in protest of the sexual preferences of others?
Unconditional love is not the same thing as tolerance. We should love all people, gays or not, but that does not mean we should stay silent and not inform the people that the practice is sinful and wrong.
Or the same Christian nature that has splintered into 34,000 identifyable denominations worldwide while each claiming the others have it wrong?
The grand master plan of Satan. Divide and Conquer.
Or the Christian nature that demands a conformity of belief in a supreme before accepting an individual?
The Christian nature only demands that you recognize that you are a sinner and incapable of being a perfect human like Jesus Christ.
This is just a short list of conditions that hardly demonstrate love and from a faith system that preaches the pursuit of something that it's adherants very rarely attain ...if ever. By the way, I do not use the word "sin." In the real world there is no such thing

Gome -
Tolerance is a small step in love, so it's a step in the right direction.

Thanks for Proving the Bible
Actually, your post serves to prove that man does have a sin nature which is incapable of unconditional love. Man's version of love without God is always based on conditions. For example, you only love your mate because she/he makes you feel a certain way. When the good feelings start to go away, divorce is often the answer. Yet with a Christian nature, you are transformed, and really do want to love people unconditionally.

"All you need is tolerance"..not quite the same ring to it.
"Grinning and bearing" is good too (aka, grace under pressure).

Your right on the money bucko!
Love. It's just like peace.
Maybe unconditional love among humans is possible, but how will we know until we've mastered the basics, eh?
Thanks for your post.
