Cass, I agree the housework can get done
when it gets done. Kids do love their t.v. My little one will sit captivated if Sponge Bob happens to be on and yes, food is always a good distraction.

When I worked at home my boys were all at school, so I would work while they weren't in the house. If I had things to do when they came home, they would watch tv or videos or play outside till I was finished. Yes, there was the odd interruption, but I found if I provided plenty of finger food for them to attack, it kept them out of my hair for awhile.
Now that I work full time, my writing is done after dinner and on weekends. When I take my son to basketball training I take a notepad along so I can scribble while he trains. I don't get much housework done, but I figure that doesn't matter much.

Dang, HG,
that writer's block looks like it wants to start paying rent.

Maybe you ought to tell those voices to just shut up and give you a break, well, all of them except for Mrs. Muse. I'm sorry that I can't think of anything that would help you to start writing again. I hope you get a break soon.

Joe,
Maybe you could put in the office, after you get all the other projects completed.
If the dogs take up as much time as kids do - and I suspect they might - then they qualify as your children.

MerryAnne,
your days are looooonng. I know what you mean about needing quiet time for the edits. When I can't concentrate, I mutter and that brings the little one over to enquire what's going on with Mom. Seems you have a good system that works for you.

Sorry, I haven't had much input lately - not a working mother and don't work from home! But I think I've been too distracted by the voices in my head to write. I've only written one story in like 4 or 5 months I think.

Although I don't have kids. . ,
I had the opportunity to place an office in my home. After much consideration, I refused to place one in this house. I had a feeling that I would be tempted to work on things pertaining to the house other than work.
By the way, do dogs count as children?? *grin*

Word,
I write with all the distractions. but when I'm fine tuning, doing the re-writes and edits, it's at night, after the kids are asleep. The problem with that is that my work day is from 5:30am (when the first kid wakes) until 11:00 or 11:30 when I finally fall asleep (sometimes later)
there is also the golden hour (sesame street time) when both kids are absorbed and I open up my laptop on the dining room table where I can still see them and I put in an hour of solid effort.

Quirks, I find that I need a lot of discipline
to settle down to writing. I will write if I forget that the tv is on and it becomes a background drone, otherwise I am half watching tv and blogging at the same time. All when I should be writing.

oopsie--you know I would answer your questions...but they don't pertain to me...Eight years ago I rented an office to do my writing in, because frankly...at home (even without any kids!) there are just way too many distractions! Have a good day Ms. Word!
