Hey, this was good, Joe...
What a laugh! A fridge can be scary places sometimes, especially the bottom shelf, near the back....

Your hyperboles are wonderful and just too funny. Reading your blog is like Green Acres on steroids. I've never heard of much less seen such a catalope before. Anyway, I find myself becoming a regular reader as I have become curious as to what aspect of farming is going to capture your attention next. You make such wonderful hay out of so little. Thanks for being a frequent visitor to my blog.

OH.. MY... GOSH
This is hilarious! And I'm with you ... I wouldn't eat it either! Have you ever seen Monster out in the garden at night trying to communicate with the pods? He may be one of them, appearing to you only as a hologram!

AGAIN, another hysterical country story. Although I love all the others, this will have to be placed as number 1 in my book. I had to laugh out loud while reading it. Then I had to read it out loud to Brian who also has a garden and could appreciate the humor.

Going plaid?
How about picnic blanket plaid? or big red-and-white checks like an old-style table cloth? I do like the chickens, tho. very apropos.

Poor Georgia...
I'm starting to take quite a liking to her. She's such a colorful character in your stories! I'll bet the melon doesn't taste half as scary as it looks, tho. A few days ago, I did a lot of fast talking to persuade my son--who is not a picky eater in the first place--to try just a bit of honeydew. They come yellow, here, not green. I even stooped so low as to say, "But sweetie, you liked it when you were a baby..." But it was all in vain. My five-year-old's sensibilities could not overcome eating juicy green fruit--even if it was a pretty green!--with a frightening yellow rind. I think it was the mass of goopy seeds I had scooped from the middle that pushed him over the edge. Whatever. You might be surprised, though. I might experiment on the Monster, or Georgia, first tho. Something that gigantic, with the exception of watermelon or pumpkin, I'd be wary of, too!
I'm sorry. Is this comment too long????
Wonderful read, as always, Joe! You're my favorite!

Invasion of the Body Snatchers, indeed...
If your neighbor 'survives' eating it, it only means she is now one of THEM...Beware!
Just to be safe, check around for any bodies lying around in cocoons that look just like you about to hatch.
Sounds very sci-fi horror to me.

Funny you saying that ; about that mutant thing in your fridge, it mean. My wife was eating a melon, right? so, clever me, I thought I'd keep some seeds and plant them in the spring.
I've now got two twenty foot long plants, with several ... pumpkins. How, one asks oneself does a melon seed grow to a pumpkin? They dont turn into coaches at night ; I know that 'cos I watch them, and I haven't seen Cinders around.
I reckon that thing you've got is one of those things in that Stephen King story ( can't recall it's title ) so Beware.
I don't want to see " Shock horror sensation! Blogger slain by mad killer pumpkin! Mayor declares state of emergency! City evacuated! Bush takes refuge with SAC! Sox down again!

Hilarious!! I think you should carefully cut it open so as not to damage the pod person, and then eat some of the cantaloupe and tell us what it tasted like!! I have been a gardener for a long time, but I only grow regular, non-pod-person cantaloupe. lol.

Hopefully it is a Podperson. I hear they are incredibly handy around the house. Maybe they can sleep in your silverware drawer to fend off the mice.

Sounds like they thrive
in the sun and your soil is just right for them. Wonder if they are gentically engineered? or a natural anomally. At any rate let us know ...especially if a pod person pops out.

The stories here are so
delightful. I was born on a farm and lived there til I was nine. I've spent a lot of time out in the desert and don't like cities, so I really get a kick out of your preceptions of the country life. Of course I would probably be a city buimpkin if I was forced to life in a really big city. I've been in most all of the big cities but always felt way out of place there.

Joe Love....Your sense of humor is divine...
Great storyteller! I can't even grow tomatoes. I have a lone plant sitting in a big terra cotta thing. When should the tomatoes flower? I don't see buds yet. Is there still time for me? If you have any extra watermelons, send them to Medusa!!!
