Thanks, Vane and Jack (and Dave), and don't worry, Joe_Love, Bren won't get another credit card, they won't give her another. Too many inquiries about her credit rating/report, too short a time period for the credit she has (she had none except house/car until just before the divorce last fall), too high balances (she's maxed them all out) on the few credit cards she has. She almost had a part-time temporary job that would have lasted the summer, it would have been our survival, but her boss prevented it, wanted it written into the contract that she would work only weekends. They wouldn't write it that way and her boss wouldn't accept her word that she would work only weekends and not evenings. Oh well, we are surving, barely, looks impossible to make it another month, but Bren says we'll make it somehow, looks that way each month, we always make it somehow. Thanks again, all of you.

Dave just told me to tell you to tell Bren that he's rooting for her, rooting for her since the old days and to keep on pressing on through the tunnel until it's out into plain country, plain light, plain simple.
I'm only a cat. I don't get all this human stuff. But there you go.

Getting another credit card
is THE LAST thing Bren needs to do is to get ANOTHER credit card. . , unless she's going to transfer her balance from one of the others to gain a better interest rate (then cut it up afterwards). Credit cards are lifetraps.
