Joe Love, it is not mundane at all. Writers should make it their business to do such things. I have been attending a literary festival and learnt so much

May, your accounts of
the television writing workshop is very much appreciated. You might consider attending the workshop as commonplace or mundane, but from where I sit, I find it fascinating hearing about you seriously following your desired career.

Frankenkitty, you're welcome. I found this stuff helpful too. Now do get back to that manuscript sooner rather than later

This blog was very useful,
since I have a 200 page unfinished manuscript sitting in my old office. It needs work. I haven't touched it months.  If I had more time, like when I sell my company, I am definitely taking more courses on writing.  Well, now I am intruged and am heading down to your previous blog!  Take care and have a great weekend

Mayb...I love those type classes/exercises
They're lots of fun and you can learn so much. Do you have Stephen King's book on writing? It's like, a bible for many writers.

Passionflower, very good idea. We did something a little like this at the workshop. The teacher showed us a film of hers and then we took it apart

These are great suggestions...
Here's another one: Try taking a scene from some novel by a favorite author...something from one of the veterans like Hemmingway or Steinbeck. Then take the scene apart word by word and try to find out what made it work.

I think no matter what you are writing, breaking it down into manageable bits is a good idea.

Balls to the crummy workshop, tell us about the old flame! (I wouldn't dare if it was me though.)

MayB,
Glad you went to the workshop. Although I don't believe in continually going from workshop to workshop, I DO believe in attending one every now and again. I think there's always something you can pick up. Now to the good part....I am intrigued! Tell us what happened with the past love!

You mean you are going to write about your long lost love? Is this a good idea?
