Comments on Christian athletes -- the humour of some people's beliefs

mysteria -- that is the probably the single most shocking thing that still
to this day leaves me muttering to myself and wondering how the world will ever solve it's problems. In the year 2005 we still have young adults graduating from college while still unable to differentiate between the concept of Satan as an evil foil to the powers of good and Satan as a real corporeal being.  Adults, members of one of the wealthiest and most highly educated societies in history spew this nonsense as if it is fact.

I once Heard a radio broadcast in which the announcer

broadcast to the world that Rock and Roll bands like Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin sold their collective souls to the Devil himself in exchange for there success.  The crazy thing about it was he was  S E R I O U S...

It is that kind of thing that serves to remind me that yeah, I'm on the right track...

Xeno-x -- that was sort of a quote from memory. I think I have it right but
my memory isn't what it used to be. I do have the premise right however. A fairly successful professional athlete was basically saying that other professional athletes cannot experience the same level of success as he has without faith. Babe Ruth is a perfect example as would be Ty Cobb or any host of modern athletes to debunk this one dimensional thinking.

What kills me is when boxers, during the in-ring interviews immediately following a victory, first thank God. I'd like to thank God for granting me the ability to pummel another man into unconsciousness... As if He would approve of that.

okay I like the comment that you quoted
. "It is safe to say that those who do not believe in the power of God's almighty and everlasting grace as found in his only son, Jesus Christ, who died for you and I, so that we may be free from eternal damnation will not have the same success ......."

so then we have the hard-drinkin, swearin' Babe Ruth -- hmmm . . . by this criterion then, the Babe should not have had the sucdes he did? . . . or maybe . . . there are those who meet the criterion and who've done a whole lot better (maybe batting 1.000? -- god is PERFECT, right?) and we just haven't heard of them?

I guess we have to look at all the stats again -- those at the top meet the criterion?

Actually the passage in the Bible that I like (among the top favorites) is "God makes his rain to fall on the righteous and unrighteous alike." That's straight from the horse's mouth. No favoritism there!!!

Xeno-x -- and how would they explain the New Jersey Devils winning the
Stanley Cup several times over the last decade? Does Satan follow sports as well?

i'm with you on this one

actually it's the "God on our side" mentality.

when we win, god is with us

when we lose -- no comment -- is god on their side now?  -- has god changed sides?

i would think that the Anaheim Angels would win the World Series every year if this were so, wouldn't you?

Or the New Orleans Saints, the Super Bowl?

That's it exactly...all of this does make sense to some people and no sense to others...
