I always apologise for bumps, no matter how small, but you'll always get the one in ten that snarls at you whatever you do. Some people are just plain rude. One of my bugbears is when you politely step out of someone's path or open a door for them and they just ignore you. I feel like shouting Thankyou in a sarcastic manner. In fact, on occasion, I do.

You see DC is a place where you can't just bump into people. It's not New York, people aren't rude and self involved. People have a stick up their ass, and they're polite. The racism is always there, get used to it. Everyone in DC is concerned with racism and politically correctness. It's because everyone's a bigot, even the big black ladies. I lived in DC for 4 years. If you're polite and stay out of people's way they'll ignore you, if you accidentally bump into them you'll spark their anger. There's nothing you can do but adjust.
