It was too late for them to understand the irony.

Congrats, you've won home 3 clicks in exchange for the herbs.

I don't consider it "making light" of death, mellyn.
I see your point, though. Which is why I prefer the "By The Numbers" aspect. Because, those statistics are very "general". And, thus, you can distance yourself from the actual "tragedy" element.

It so amazes me, Vane, how people keep...
finding stupider and stupider ways to fatally injure themselves.

Sucks to be in the circus PERIOD, Frankenkitty!
Cause there really aren't ANY good jobs there (sword-swallower, elephant trainer, "freak show" mutant, etc.). Escept for maybe "The Ringleader".

Thank you, offbeatpub!
The "Salem stat" makes a good trivia question to ask at parties, because the image of witches being burned at the stake (which they were ... just not in Salem) is so ingrained in people's minds.

Hopefully, he was so caught up in the music, he never felt any fear at all. Almost certainly felt the pavement, however. That story kinda reminds me of a Charles Addams cartoon for some reason.

Surely we need to inform those liquor store owners to toss the guns and carry pepper spray and those witches should have rid the neighborhood of rope.

The portuguese dancer performing the dance mid air, now thats a powerful image.

Life, death...it's all the same eventually.

Guess I'm in a mood today, hehe.  Enjoyed your post though!

Actually, iSiSeYeSs,
these are more like "facts of death".

But, thank you for the compliment!

posted by Mademoiselle on August 1, 2005 at 12:18 PM | link to this | reply

Why thank you, Silly.
On the subject of websites, a few quasi-acquaintances of mine run a site that actually displays photos and footage of executions, accidents, terrorist beheadings, etc.. If you wish, I could give you the link (in fact, will almost certainly post it here at some point).

HOWEVER, be sure to give it plenty of thought before you visit. Because once you see this stuff ... you'll NEVER be able to erase it from your memory banks. Try as you might.

The missing person stat is my favorite one, thus far.

Volaar, I actually considered putting...
"Don'tcha Think?" in the title.

NCwriter ...
The individual stories can be culled easily from a variety of sources. Not hard to find, at all.

The "Death By The Numbers" part, however, is much more difficult to put together. It really requires access to the national death registry. Which, though technically "public archives", is not easy to attain.

The missing person one would make a good story.
