I found this posting interesting.  But there is also a business side to marriage.  In practical terms marriage is a pooling of resources.  The couple become a corporation-sharing money, property.  In fact, that's what marriage was origionally meant for.  If a couple had a business that needed to stay in the family.  Think of all the traditional marriages that involved dowerys.  I'm not convinced that people have to become married to stay happy.  How are people happier just because their union is formally recognized by some religious/civil leader?  Their attitudes haven't changed.  The only thing that's changed is society views them as more acceptable.

It is just one of those facts that is way too obvious for anyone who is able to see things clearly.

kooka_lives - you hit the nail on the head when you say this
"If homosexuals marriages are as successful as they most likely will end up being, then suddenly it will be harder to paint homosexuality as being evil." Whenever a conservative Christian mentions anything about the sanctity of marriage in reference to gay marriage, we are obligated as rational thinking people to begin howling in their faces with laughter at the hypocracy. Currently, North American right wing Christians lead the entire world in divorce rates of all indenitfyable groups in all countries at or around 50% of all of their unions. This has been true for quite some time. Big surprise that the vast majority of  bible thumpers decrying gay marriage right here on Blogit are all divorced. At the same time gay marriages have a disolution rate of around 17% worldwide. Christians haven't seen numbers like that since the 1920's. In fairness, gay marriage and same sex unions are relatively new and it is reasonable to assume that there is a newness to it that does not allow them to take it for granted the way all other groups do. But still, I have to chuckle when a bible thumper wants to drag out the argument that gays will destroy marriage. They can't possibly screw it up worse than the Christians have.
