This Wrinkles person sounds really interesting!
Here's a suggestion:
Next time you have the urge to go shopping, don't shop to buy more stuff. Instead, shop to buy shelves, put the shelves together, and take some of the stuff that's on the floor and put it up on the shelves.
The shelves could go around the walls of your rooms and could be both secured to each other as well as the walls so that they won't end up falling over.
You could even take things a step further and put curtain rods on the front of the shelves and hang drapes that will hide the items except for those times when you want to get to them.
Then, shampoo and/or steam-clean your carpets.
