I didn't start writing until I was 68, ( I'm 74 now )and since then I've had about 50 short stories, poems, and lots of articles published ; some in the UK, but most here in Spain. ( Some of which are posted on my blog )

Which just goes to show that it's never too late to start

OK

My name is Jo.  I am an artist from Brisbane. I have been writing and teaching online since 2000.

I paint murals and Teach.  I make just enough money online to make it worthwhile and I find it does get me freelance contracts in the real world (As opposed to virtual)

I have my first Comic Publication about to be launched and another publication in the works.

Reason for blogging : I actually like being able to talk to others as I am at home alone a lot writing.

I often score one off illustration commissions etc when I post my cartoons online

terp,
(Sorry for the late comment) Working at the animal hospital, I don't get much time to write lately. I mostly write humor. I have written articles for my animal hospital website, though. Informative kinda stuff.

terp,

I don't have room to go into a lot of detail right now.  I have college/university hours in almost anything you can think of, with some focus on English and Journalism.  I have never been very happy with anything I have done except writing.  Unfortunately, for reasons I have no desire to go into, I have never pursued that to the degree to which I should have.

My main reason for being on Blogit is to keep my pencil moving and to learn what I need to know to communicate with the audience that is here.  A writer who hasn't developed the ability to satisfy an audience is no more than a Showerstall Lothario.

What kinds of things have I done that relate?  I can't begin to cover that.  Anyone with experiences in their life that they do not think relate to their writing, is no writer.

If you are interested in a support group, I am interested in joining in.  It took me only one reading to see that you were an exceptional thinker/writer of the professional variety, and I'm here to absorb what I can.  In return, I will contribute whatever I can.   JJ

Probably.  It's also a big case of me not being able to keep up with things now to drive it along.  My "days" thing would have been a lot of work, but I didn't have a problem doing it.  My life just went into upheavel in all this, and I'm not sure if I can propel this sort of labor-intensive discussion right now.

What sort of promotion were you talking about?  I'll never do the 'guess who I'm reading thing' or that kind of deal. I don't know if I'd read my own 'who I'm reading' list.  I don't get why people read that.

There are lots of contests, and since I'm reaching out to people who do this for a living or want to, I don't want to run a 'make believe' contest of writing something (hope that makes sense).  It's not to say these are bad, just most working writers I know wouldn't go near those things----to busy.  If I'm going to agonize over putting together a string of unlike topics, someone somewhere is going to send me a paycheck for it.  Sounds cold, but the thrill of the byline is gone for me.

You're going to need promotion for this. That's where my attempt failed
in 2003.

Oh, I'm still plenty anonymous.

And I can do it without lying too.

Any three-bit P.I. could wnkle me out via the internet, but the question would be "why?", sort of like the dog who catches a badger..."Now what the hell do I do with it, and how can I get it to let go??!".

terpgirl,
I tried to get something like this started last year, but it flopped. Hope you have better success. I'm college trained, degree in Mass Communications with a marketing minor...was a corporate copywriter for about a decade before going solo 12 years ago. Write all sorts of marketing communications, a little p.r., lots of catalog work. Have been studying the nuances of writing screenplays for several years, and working on one, but get sidetracked with the novel...and of course blogging is a big time sink...lol...is this what you were looking for?

I write the things that are going through my head........sometimes I get feedback that lets me know I'm still sane.... Here, there is no judgement.

Straight

Anonymity.  I've said this elsewhere, until someone in my writing group asked me directly about this place, I never mentioned it among my writer friends.  I am trying out things that I wouldn't necessarily take on the road.  I don't consider Blogit a stomping grounds for professional writers.

That said, you'll see subsets and supersets.  The superset would be Blogit as a whole, with the group that reads this little thing I do as the subset.  The goals aren't necessarily the same, at least I hope not.

In the *real* sense, for those who read the stuff I've written it's because it says "make money with words."  Kinda tough to do that and stay anonymous.  The people you are talking about fall into one of two categories:  professionals who use this as a testing ground or those who are okay with being starving artists or the poet laureature of their family.  The latter is okay, but the people I'm reaching out to here are those who want to do more.

As Maj was saying, the backgrounds are great for tapping resources in fields you may need to get to.   Writers network in all sorts of places, and we look for contacts whenever we can.  It makes the job easier.

Doesn't part of the beauty of Blogit come from anonymity?

OKAY.Hi, my name is Majroj and I'm a blogger

(old joke).

Retired USAF/Air Nat Guard (1975-1997), included service as a firefighter, fire dispatch, crash/structural rescueman with very little "action" under my belt versus real firefighters. Worked ambulance with two companies over three years. From CAlifornia, spent 9 years in Nebraska, then back out to CA. Was a male nursing student , then male nurse, in a jail system for the last eighteen years. Married times 31 years, got kids, pets.

The reason include this info is that if enough of us do, others who need some information about something we have expertise in can tap us for it.

OK y'all, I showed you mine, where's yours?
