i've heard about this kind of stuff happening.. like if you wear rubber soled shoes, or if you have static electicity in your hair, and you can't be on your cell phone.. you must certainly can not smoke..  but for all the urban legends,  if these were common occurances then we'd hear about it more..  anyway.. i'm full of static, but still.. i make the two men in my life pump gas for me.. HA HA HA

Yikes Allmighty!! I did this once when I was frantically trying to leave town to drive to my friend's out of town wedding.  Not only did I leave the gas cap off, I flicked a lit cigarette out the window before I realized that I could smell gas!  I still get chills thinking about it!

Ahhhh!
I'm a freak at gas stations.  I went on Tuesday and there was something making some sort of funky noise as the gas went into the car and I didn't know what to do.  So, I just sort of backed away!  LOL  I think people thought I was nuts, but if the car was gonna go BOOM! I wasn't going with it!

Yes, this seems like a mundane subject, yet is a large part of all our lives in the petroleum-driven society. Fear of gas stations should not be made light of. How many have exploded in great, globular fireballs, on TV? Sometimes even vampires are involved. Going to the gas station can be terrifying, if only because you fill the tank at the "cash only" station, then discover you have no cash--or you cannot find your credit or debit card, or whatever you carry them in--or your cap opener won't work, or it requires a key you forgot to bring. You should move to Oregon, one of only two states where an attendant comes out and pumps the gas; but even that doesn't guarantee you won't catch fire or be attacked by a vampire. Hemlocker

I lived in South Dakota, so I learned how to drive at 13yrs old  and was driving my brothers and sisters to school at 14 yrs old. Weird laws there...lol.

I don't know why that should be so funny...
the image of the cover blowing about.  I hope none of the gas sloshed out....Some days, it's just better to stay in bed.  ...And you were driving at 14?

lovely

When I lived in Boston, I refused to drive. I was so happy. I took public transportation everywhere. It was so nice and relaxing having someone else find where you are going, and find parking, so you could just sit back, listen to music, read a book, or relax.

I don't understand how anyone in the world can "enjoy" driving.

lol...Poor Mia!!...This makes me sort of glad I've never been able to drive!!  It's not a silly fear at all, though.

That's hilarious!
Actaully, you didn't do as badly as a friend of mine -- he drove off in a giant Ford F 350 truck with the nozzle still in the tank. Ripped the hose right out of the pump. Made a hell of a mess.

The funniest thing -- he owns the station!

Hey, my last girlfriend did the ultimate gas station blooper: she drove off with the nozzle still in her car. Heehehe, yeah she had to pay for that one =P
