Hola,
I used to work for a radio station, and so many demos came in and comps from known artists and so many were never listened to.  Good things is that I got to take them home, and from those found some of the greatest artists and tunes ever.  I was laughing at the previous comment about the movie "High Fidelity".  One of my favorite movies!

Go Easy,

The Musical Pyramid Scheme!

Interesting article.

Is it a fine line between promoting those on your label and paying people to like them?

Sounds kind of like God giving an auto-home program in heaven for believers.  It is cheap.  It doesn't afford the listener any aural free will.

Though, I don't listen to the radio.  There is a fantastic lil' music shoppe just down the street from my house that laughs in the face of mainstream rubbish.

We all get a kick out of someone who comes in to ask for Britney Spears or Justin Timberlake.  Are you kidding me?  You want to pay for that?  Well, they don't carry it.

Reminds me of a wicked movie: "High Fidelity" when the guy asks for Stevie Wonder for his daughter and Jack Black tells him that he obviously doesn't know his daughter.

hehe
