Your post is a good case for regarding religion as myth and legend. Their stories are often fantastical and larger than life in nature. Perhaps we should think of the various Gods (ancient and modern) as a way to understand humanity. After all, they are fashioned by men. If we look closely enough they will reveal insecurities, fears, longings-perhaps even the modern mindset.

I echo Rame and Sannhet.
This is especially profound work on your part. Very well thought-out.

Painter -
Great post! I know that I cannot know God. No matter how hard I try, no matter how much I study, no matter how much I pray - it just aint gonna happen! However, being aware of the present moment will at least get me closer to that which I cannot know.

Empty handed,
You are absolutely right! None of us know Him. We may strive to know Him and love Him, but fully understanding and knowing Him are not something we can achieve in this life. As far as reward or punishment, look at it this way. If we love, act with love, live love, and truly want to love more and more, then we will not falter. We must love Him and each other as He does. If we do that, there is no way we can fail. If we choose not to love, then we are choosing to reject God. Some of our rejections are large and some of them are small, but they are still rejections. When we choose to reject Him, we are choosing the "punishment". Someone explained it to me like this: God is love and His love is brilliant, like a bright, bright light and if we have chosen to live in darkness, then when the time comes to meet Him, we won't be able to go toward His light. It will be too brilliant so we then turn and choose the darkness for eternity.
