If it is appropriate, riding is supposed to be great therapy.
Beats meeting Helga the Contorter.

Mia Ella, if Karl makes it through
rehab, and if there is even the slightest chance, I'm sure he will ride again.

Hi Nickie-Fleming, Thanks for
your comment, I enjoy getting to know new readers. Karl is lucky he's alive - and it could have been worse. Sorry about your ski accident. I checked out your profile and see you are living in Belgium. I think there are a few other writers here from Belgium too.

fw-You're right about the fear factor
I think that's true of all critters, especially us. I figured if anyone picked up on the sex connection it would be you:-)

Teiynor, I hated the clean-up part too.
Actually, bird cages and aquariums are even worse for me.

Vane, You must've fallen just right.
Yep, I think Karl has the guts, it all depends on how many nerves were severed or damaged if he gets up again.

Wow..what a story. I can't imagine what kind of fear Karl went through. I bet he still rides if able.

Cynthia,
I sure hope that Karl will get better! I love horses as well, but because of a stupid accident (no, not with a horse, but by skiing) I probably won't ever be able to ride again. Last February I made this really weird fall on a slope in Fernie, BC, and got a big tear in my leg's muscles. I had to stay home for a couple of weeks, and can walk normally by now, but the leg still hurts when I'm doing ordinary things like cleaning. So I guess that both horseback riding and skiing will be "past tense". And what is most extraordinary, my sister (who lives with me) had the same kind of accident only three days before!!!

Horses can sense fear, which is why I will never ride ...
they know I don't have the heart to "break them" and they laugh at my feeble attempts to rein them in. Sex at 14??? naughty-naughty.

How tragic. I hope Karl will turn out to be alright, what a terrifying accident. I too went through a horse phase, but was quickly cured of that when I was old enough to help start taking care of them -- as in mucking out stalls, and cleaning them.

Crikey.
Best of luck for RG's ha'bro. If he was in half the condition of mind and body you describe, he stands the best chance.

This is precisely why I would never, ever ride a horse ...
for any reason. Certainly pray your friend doesn't end up like Christopher Reeve. That was just awful.
I've always wanted a pony, though. It's been #1 on my Christmas "wish list" for each of the past 14 years. But, it's yet to come true. My mother says it's because Santa can't fit one down the chimney ... but, that just seems like an excuse.

Oh, what a horrible thing for him to go through! I hope he recovers.....

Horses are awesome creatures. I went through that horse phase as a little girl too. My sister (at age 38) moved to the country in January and they got a couple of horses (now that's up to 3). She's living her childhood dream, and it's been great for me to be around horses again. They have an old, decrepit Palomino who is kind of "mine." I'd forgotten how much I love velvety horse nose.

Horse accidents are pretty serious. I've fallen of a horse a couple of times, and thankfully nothing has happened. But that has to have beenn really scary for your friend. I hope he gets the courage to go riding again. It'll probably be a healing experience.
