PS: I read a book by "Mother Earth News" ihn the seventies..

about "home businesses", articles from their magazine written allegedly by real people with real experience.

The one about becoming a writer included the heartfelt and sincere advice to move to where you can catch a lot of edible fish because they are free......

CarolynMoe is in my camp.Writers write. Authors write books.

I always had this picture in my mind of having a nice study with a view on the second story of a house in the country and typing away at books and articles. I would grow a neat beard, wear courdaroy jackets and pressed denims.

Please stop laughing, I can hear you all the way out here!

I could do it. I wouldn't ever sell anything, but I'd bre a writer, dammit...

I asked you to please stop the laughing!

CarolynMoe, I am not sure it is quite so simple particularly if you are freelancing

Ca88andra, I'm not sure I like writing those articles but I do it well and approaach it professionally so that's why I keep getting asked to do it again. I am trying to work out a way of doing it without giving all my time to it.

Your idea is not so wide of the mark. I am setting up a writer for hire business and I always mention it to companies that I write about. The newspaper pieces give me a profile but it is the private clients who would fund the champagne :-)

May, don't ever say "never". If you want to put bread on the table (or champagne, truffles and similar French delights), then just go for it! You say you like writing the articles on industry snapshots. Why not make a website focussing on just that. Market yourself to different industries and charge a subscription fee for information.

The precarious road taken
and yes uncertainty is normal. I loved the comment you wrote on my post about that same uncertainty we live with every day. I also agree with CarolynMoe.

A writer is someone who writes...(period).    At least that's what "they" say.
