Krisles, i think it would be worth limiting it to exactly what interests you. The woman I mentioned is passionate about painting mainly and she is not an artist herself. Of course her overheads are low because she has a house in the countryside and so has the gallery in her garden. She keeps it very simple and so that keeps the stress down. I think it is a going concern as she gets commission on works sold but I can't see it as a big money spinner. I think as long as it feeds her passion and is running at a profit it does its job.

Actually, funny you should mention that - my mom and I have talked about that very thing. The small town where she lives is finally becoming a destination place for tourists and has many antique shops but only a couple of galleries.  We may talk more when she gets back from New Mexico. I would have to have a hodgepodge of items in there - pottery, glass, watercolor, oils, sculpture, acrylics, etc.  There is a church for sale on a highway coming out of Austin that Mama keeps trying to interest me in checking out as a coop type place...I may have to do that yet.  My basic problem is laziness....I just retired after a crash and burn from a very,  very stressful career and have found doing nothing quite enjoyable!!

Krisles, the world needs more people like you to support artists. Have yoiu ever thought about starting your own little gallery. A women who lives near me has done that in her yard and opens at weekends.

I know...I know...we have to be strong...a little daylight....a little art...there is a whole big world out there...and, besides, Brenda always has to go in and work when I'm there at least some of the time and I have to do something...

Hi! Haven't visited with you in awhile...need to get over and catch up....great idea....except - I live in an area saturated with retirees and art lovers and you have to beat 'em off with a stick to get into the slots available for such things!!  One thing I need to do is not be such a hermit and get into Austin and San Antonio to the museums and galleries, not to mention all the small towns around in the hills that are abundant with artists and their galleries and look, look, look.....I just get stuck and forget there is a world outside this computer...and then when I do wander in like I did Thursday...whoa!!!!! Thanks for visiting.

Next time I go see Brenda, I'll grab you and we will go to a gallery...I know there are some great ones around there.....we both need a break from words, words, words.

You are so welcome....there were some guys, a father and son, from Germany, who had some landscapes in there that just blew me away, too - I would have had a hard time choosing - also some acrylic light sculptures....whoa! and some flowers in these vivid red on red and orange on orange and violet on violet combinations....it was truly a sensual explosion!!! Thanks for visiting.

what to do about obsession
If you're retired now, not tied to a job, what's to stop you from working (or volunteering) a few hours a week in a gallery or local art museum? That way you could feast your eyes and enjoy all the new things, and you wouldn't have to put new nails in your wall or dust them and worry about humidity and the impact of light, etc.

It's enough for me to see it through your eyes.

I popped over to the gallery and took a look at Angus. Not my...
sort of thing, but I see what he's getting at, and I can see the appeal of it, too. And the prices. My God! I agree that it's very well done. Thanks for sharing!
