malcolm --- you have addressed the primary concerns

However, we have no obligation to reconcile a claim of Islam being a religion of peace, the claimant must prove this assertion. Actions speak louder than words in this case. The moderates are telling us one thing while the extremists are proving quite another. Our western born and bred decency tells us that we cannot paint all persons of one identifyable group with the same brush. This righteous thinking which is derived from the basis of our beloved democracy, is exactly the point where we begin to lose the struggle against terrorism. Sad ain't it? To prevail, we must overcome our own inherent decency or continue to have our values of right and wrong used against us. I expand more on this in the next post. Thanx for stopping bye.

Very articulate
post if I may say so and I wholeheartedly endorse this respect for power thesis. So how do we compromise this with Islam being a religion for peace? Is it peace because the opposition is too strong to even consider attacking it? Or is it just another religious cloak behind which to bring your neighbour down?

they would have already been obliterated

you see Gome, we are now forced to face what we have been largely sheltered from and denying the existence of for a long time:

the reality of the cold, barren hellish wilderness that is inhuman.

Where souls are either completely lost or imprisoned by fear.

cantey_1975 -- as you said.... the cold, hard, reality
There is no diplomatic solution, hi tech warfare pitted against the resolve of religious zeal will fail as well. I often wonder how a person born and raised in the region would handle things if he were making decisions for us.

Gome

I understand.

But the reality is, it is either them or us.

cantey_1975 - this goes against everything I believe to be right

and should be considered an attempt to think as the adversary does. The other option is to continue on the path we are on. How many countless lives will be lost on our present course?

I would give the Moslem world a simple ultimatum. Stop all terrorist actions or Mecca gets blown off of the face of the earth

Priceless. I have not even mustered up the balls to say that. Yet it is the truth.

it is the truth because as you said in this excellent, articulate, and vivid post, the Moslem world only understands and respects power. A greater power MUSt be displayed if they are to be defeated.

Cold. Hard. Reality.

I now see why you have acheived such success that you have been able to semi retire at age 49, is it?
