I tend to think that a propensity for saying "nobody does that" is stranger than carrying a flashlight and pocket knife.

Good question
No, I live in the city. It's just that I work nights. And I take walks on a trail next to my building during my lunch hour, which is sometimes well after the sun goes down. The trail isn't very well lit, so I use the flashlight to light things up a bit, especially spots where people might like to be hidden. We've had some muggings on that trail in the past. People who don't have the best of intentions tend to not want to be lit up.
The knife, well, I have to use tape to hold down stuff and the knife is handy to cut the excess tape. I just think it's nice to have what I need with me instead of having to stop what i'm doing, go across the room to hunt for a knife, and then come back and open the box and resume whatever task it was.

I don't understand.
Why
do you carry a flashlight and a pocket knife with you at all times? Do you, like, live in the woods or something?
