Apologia to JJ Wilde. WT Sherman, father of modern warfare................

justsouno, I'd like to say a word about that, if you don't mind.  Last night jj Wilde correctly challenged my assertions that WT Sherman, in his March to the Sea, set the stage for terrorism as we know it today.

He was right.  That was pure BS.  I found it in the book, and the author claims that it is not the birth of terror, as few lives were lost on either side in the march.  His model of warfare was adopted finally by American military strategists and could be seen in the Balkans War of the 1990's, Afghanistan and Iraq.  Destroying infra-structure, saving lives was the principle that Sherman brought to warfare.  Meanwhile hundreds of thousand of boys and men were slaughtered at Gettysburg, Antietam and other battles fought by Grant.

Have you ever read the letter I posted that my gr-gr-grmthr wrote her son during the civil war? Just an fyi because it's very interesting if you haven't. I sat in a log cabin my g-g-gf built in 1854, where she sat writing it....I love that era.

And the Yankees cut cloth from my great grandmother's looms, poured
out the milk she had for her babies and chased away her cows. War is hell. At least they did not burn her house.
